Academics
All six MCS elementary schools follow the same academic curriculum in core subject areas. West View also offers a Dual Language Program that covers elementary curriculum with instruction delivered in Spanish. Details on the Spanish Dual Language Program can be found here while details on all other academic programs are below.
Language Arts
Fountas & Pinnell Classroom™ is a cohesive, multi-text approach to literacy instruction for all students in grades PreK–5. The System is designed to support whole-group, small-group and independent learning opportunities including: interactive read-aloud, reading mini lessons, shared reading, phonics/spelling/word study lessons, guided reading, book clubs, and independent reading collections. Fountas & Pinnell Classroom™ is rich with authentic texts, lessons or conferring cards, minilessons and professional tools & learning for a systematic, transformative approach to literacy instruction.
Science
Project Lead The Way (PLTW) In grades 1-5, students already have the qualities of great designers and innovators. What PLTW Launch does is tap into their exploratory nature, engage them in learning that feels like play, and encourage them to keep discovering – now and for years to come.
PLTW Launch’s 43 interdisciplinary modules bring learning to life. The program empowers students to adopt a design-thinking mindset through compelling activities, projects, and problems that build upon each other and relate to the world around them. And as students engage in hands-on activities in computer science, engineering, and biomedical science, they become creative, collaborative problem solvers ready to take on any challenge.
Math
Go Math! Math instruction is always evolving, with new approaches to pedagogy, engagement and technology. GO Math!® meets students and teachers on their math journey, raising student achievement scores and supporting teachers along the way.
Designed by the same author team across K–8, GO Math! incorporates the latest thinking in its comprehensive approach and engages digital natives with cross-platform technology. It helps teachers to differentiate instruction, building and reinforcing foundational math skills that translate from the classroom to real life.
